Overview

HIP1502 is a novel salt formulation of varenicline, specifically varenicline oxalate, being developed by Korea University Anam Hospital for the treatment of nicotine dependence. As a partial agonist of the α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtype, it works by reducing the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and decreasing the rewarding effects of smoking. HIP1502 is designed as an alternative to the standard varenicline tartrate formulation (marketed as Chantix/Champix), with clinical investigations focusing on its pharmacokinetic profile, safety, and tolerability in healthy subjects to support its use in smoking cessation therapy.
