Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HIP1801 is a modified-release, once-daily oral formulation of tamsulosin developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Tamsulosin is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that targets the alpha-1A, alpha-1B, and alpha-1D subtypes. By inhibiting these receptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck, the drug facilitates muscle relaxation, thereby improving urinary flow and alleviating the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with BPH. HIP1801 was designed to optimize the pharmacokinetic profile of tamsulosin, and it has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials comparing its safety and bioavailability to standard tamsulosin capsule formulations (such as HIP1402) under both fasted and fed conditions.
