Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hippuric acid-collagen binding domain conjugate (HA-CBD) is a bone-targeted covalent conjugate consisting of the dietary metabolite phenolic acid, hippuric acid (HA), cross-linked to the arginine side chains of a Clostridial collagenase collagen-binding domain (CBD). Developed by the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center, HA-CBD is designed to specifically target and localize within bone tissue (such as the tibia and calvaria) to avoid systemic degradation and deliver therapeutic effects directly to bone. It acts by suppressing osteoclastogenesis, promoting DNA hypomethylation, and upregulating key osteogenic promoters such as BMP2, ALP, and osteocalcin. HA-CBD is being investigated for its potential to promote bone formation, suppress bone resorption, and alleviate fetal bone development issues induced by a poor maternal diet.
