hiPS-derived dopaminergic neurons is a preclinical cell replacement therapy being developed by Minerva Biotechnologies for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The therapy utilizes human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) that are maintained in a superior 'naïve' state using the company's proprietary NME7/MUC1* growth factor system. These naïve hiPSCs are then differentiated into dopaminergic neurons intended for transplantation into the brain to restore dopaminergic function and mitigate the neurodegeneration associated with Parkinson's. The use of naïve stem cells is intended to improve differentiation efficiency and the functional quality of the resulting neurons compared to standard primed stem cell methods.
