hiPS-derived T cells is an experimental cell therapy being developed by Minerva Biotechnologies for the treatment of MUC1*-positive solid tumors. The platform utilizes human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) that are maintained in a 'naïve' pluripotency state, which allows for more efficient and consistent differentiation into therapeutic T cells. These T cells are engineered or selected to target MUC1*, the transmembrane cleavage product of the MUC1 protein that functions as a powerful growth factor receptor on cancer cells but is absent on healthy tissues. By leveraging an hiPSC-derived approach, Minerva aims to produce a scalable, standardized, and potentially allogeneic 'off-the-shelf' T-cell therapy to overcome the limitations of patient-specific autologous CAR-T therapies in solid tumor indications.
