hiPSC-derived CAAR-T cell therapy is an experimental cellular immunotherapy platform being developed by ISAR Bioscience. This technology utilizes human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) to generate a standardized, scalable source of T-cells, which are then engineered with Chimeric Autoantibody Receptors (CAARs). Unlike traditional CAR-T cells that target surface antigens on cancer cells, CAAR-T cells are designed to express a specific autoantigen on their surface. This allows them to selectively recognize and eliminate B-cell clones that express autoantibodies (B-cell receptors) specific to that antigen. The primary goal is to treat autoimmune diseases, such as Graves' disease, endocrine orbitopathy, and rheumatoid arthritis, by depleting only the pathogenic B-cell populations responsible for the disease while sparing healthy B-cells and avoiding broad immunosuppression. The program is currently in preclinical development for both autoimmune conditions and cancer.
