Histaglobulin is a sterile injectable preparation composed of human normal immunoglobulin (gamma globulin) coupled with a small amount of histamine dihydrochloride and sodium thiosulphate. It is used primarily for the prevention and treatment of various allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis, eczema, urticaria (including chronic urticaria), generalized skin allergies, asthma, atopic dermatitis, and sometimes migraine. The drug works by inducing the production of antihistaminic antibodies that neutralize free histamine released during allergic reactions. This leads to a reduction in allergy symptoms over time. The mechanism involves stimulating an immune response against the histamine-immunoglobulin complex; repeated dosing increases antibody titers and can provide long-term remission from symptoms[1][2][3][4][5]. It is not recommended for use during acute allergic attacks or in certain populations such as pregnant women.
