Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A synthetic, monovalent, octameric V3 region-based HIV-1 MN peptide vaccine formulated for oral administration using biodegradable microparticles composed of lactic and glycolic acid co-polymers. The formulation is designed to induce both mucosal and systemic immune responses against the V3 loop of the gp120 envelope protein of the HIV-1 virus. The vaccine has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in healthy, seronegative adults. It can be administered orally or as a parenteral boost with an alum-adjuvanted version. No significant adverse events were observed; however, no significant humoral or cellular immune responses were detected following oral administration alone or with parenteral boosting[1][2][5]. Developed by United Biomedical.
