HIV-1 SF-2 p24 is an experimental recombinant protein subunit vaccine derived from the p24 capsid protein of the HIV-1 SF-2 strain. Developed primarily by Chiron Corporation, it was designed to elicit specific immune responses, particularly CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell activity, against the conserved core antigens of the HIV-1 virus. The vaccine is typically formulated with an adjuvant, such as MF59, to enhance its immunogenicity. In clinical research conducted by the AIDS Vaccine Evaluation Group (AVEG), it has been extensively studied as part of heterologous prime-boost regimens, often administered as a boost following priming with live recombinant canarypox vectors (ALVAC-HIV).
