Overview

The HIV CTL multi-epitope peptide (MEP) vaccine is an investigational therapeutic and prophylactic vaccine candidate designed to elicit cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It consists of a mixture of four synthetic peptides, each containing one or more conserved epitopes from the env or gag proteins of HIV. These peptides are formulated with the RC529-SE adjuvant, an analogue of monophosphoryl lipid A, and may be co-administered with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) as an additional adjuvant. The primary mechanism is to stimulate robust CD8+ T cell responses targeting multiple conserved regions of the virus, aiming to overcome viral diversity and enhance immune control. The product was developed by Wyeth Vaccines Research for use in prime-boost strategies in combination with other vaccines such as DNA-based candidates[1][2].
