Overview

HIV gag-pol antigens + interferon-gamma is an investigational combination therapy or immunological approach involving the use of HIV-1 Gag and Pol protein antigens together with interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). The Gag and Pol proteins are major structural and enzymatic components of the HIV virus, commonly targeted in vaccine research due to their ability to elicit strong cellular immune responses, particularly from CD8+ T cells. IFN-γ is a type II cytokine produced by activated T cells and NK cells that modulates immune responses, enhances cytotoxic activity against infected cells, and promotes antigen presentation. In the context of HIV infection or vaccination strategies, combining these viral antigens with IFN-γ aims to boost specific T-cell immunity—especially IFN-γ-secreting CD8+ T cell responses—to control viral replication.
