Overview

HIV-MAG is an investigational preventive HIV vaccine developed by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI). It is a multiantigen plasmid DNA (pDNA) vaccine designed to elicit immune responses against multiple HIV-1 antigens. In clinical studies, HIV-MAG is typically administered via intramuscular in vivo electroporation using the Ichor Medical Systems TriGrid Delivery System (TDS-IM) to enhance cellular uptake and antigen expression. The vaccine has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials, often as part of a heterologous prime-boost regimen alongside adenovirus-based vaccines like Ad35-GRIN/ENV. It is also frequently co-administered with the genetic adjuvant GENEVAX® IL-12 (recombinant human IL-12 pDNA) to augment T-cell immunogenicity.
