Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Akagera Medicines Africa is developing a multivalent mRNA-based vaccine for the prevention or treatment of HIV. This candidate utilizes a ligand-directed lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system specifically engineered to target dendritic cells and other antigen-presenting cells (APCs). By delivering mRNA directly to these key immune cells, the vaccine aims to elicit potent T-cell responses and the production of neutralizing antibodies. The program includes two distinct tracks: HIV VAX (LMIC), intended for low- and middle-income countries, and HIV VAX (HIC), intended for high-income countries. The vaccine is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
