HK-1 Series is a preclinical-stage therapeutic program developed by Curome Biosciences, targeting NADH:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) for the treatment of Primary Mitochondrial Diseases (PMD). The mechanism involves the modulation of NQO1, a flavoenzyme critical for maintaining cellular redox homeostasis by catalyzing the two-electron reduction of quinones to hydroquinones. By utilizing NQO1, the therapy aims to improve mitochondrial function and energy metabolism, which are typically compromised in patients with PMD. The program is currently undergoing GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) toxicity studies to support further clinical development.
