HK241

HK241 is an inhaled formulation of the aminoglycoside antibiotic amikacin, developed by Nanjing Huagai Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for nebulized administration to treat chronic pulmonary infections, such as those seen in patients with bronchiectasis and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* lung infection. Amikacin exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, which inhibits protein synthesis and leads to bacterial cell death. By delivering the drug directly to the site of infection in the lungs, HK241 achieves high local concentrations of the antibiotic while minimizing systemic exposure, thereby reducing the risk of systemic toxicities typically associated with aminoglycosides, such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. HK241 is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China.
