Overview

HKUB-001 (Pneucolin) is a live attenuated influenza viral vector vaccine (DelNS1 LAIV) developed by Hong Kong Universal Biologicals in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong and Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy. The vaccine utilizes a cold-adapted, NS1-deleted influenza virus backbone to express the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Administered intranasally, it is designed to stimulate mucosal immunity in the upper respiratory tract as well as systemic immune responses. HKUB-001 received Emergency Use Authorization in Mainland China in December 2022 for use as a booster and has undergone extensive Phase III testing in several countries, demonstrating efficacy and safety in large-scale clinical trials.
