HKUB-002

HKUB-002 (VectorFlu ONE) is a live attenuated influenza viral vector vaccine developed by Hong Kong Universal Biologicals. It is based on the proprietary DelNS1 LAIV (Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine) platform, which utilizes an egg-based production system. The vaccine is engineered to express antigens from both influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2, aiming to provide dual protection against seasonal flu and COVID-19. The DelNS1 technology involves the deletion of the influenza non-structural protein 1 (NS1) gene, which restricts viral replication to specific production systems (like eggs) while enhancing the induction of host immune responses, including interferon production, upon administration. A Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of HKUB-002 was completed in Hong Kong in 2021.
