Overview

HLö-7 is a bispyridinium-dioxime small molecule research compound that functions as an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) reactivator. It was developed as a potential therapeutic countermeasure for poisoning caused by organophosphorus compounds, including chemical warfare nerve agents such as soman, sarin, tabun, and VX, as well as organophosphate pesticides. The compound works by nucleophilically dephosphorylating the active site serine of inhibited acetylcholinesterase, thereby restoring the enzyme to its native active state. HLö-7 is structurally distinguished by two pyridinium ring systems with two oxime groups on one ring, a configuration that provides significantly higher efficacy than traditional oximes like 2-PAM, particularly against tabun intoxication. It is typically studied for administration in combination with atropine.
