Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HL-500 is a preclinical small molecule inhibitor of Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) being developed by Highlightll Pharmaceutical for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. LRRK2 is a large protein with kinase activity, and mutations in the LRRK2 gene are a significant genetic cause of both familial and sporadic Parkinson's disease. By inhibiting LRRK2 kinase activity, HL-500 aims to reduce the pathological phosphorylation of its substrates, thereby potentially mitigating neuroinflammation, lysosomal dysfunction, and the accumulation of alpha-synuclein. This therapeutic approach is intended to provide a disease-modifying effect by protecting dopaminergic neurons from degeneration.
