Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HL08 is a biosimilar candidate of exenatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed by Hualan Biological Engineering for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a synthetic version of exendin-4, it mimics the action of endogenous GLP-1 by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor. This activation enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, suppresses glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying, thereby improving glycemic control. HL08 is designed to provide a therapeutic alternative to the reference product, Byetta, and is typically administered via subcutaneous injection.
