The mechanism involves hLF1-11 initiating mitochondrial activation and membrane permeability changes in the fungal cell, increasing ATP and ROS production, followed by fluconazole acting in the effector phase, leading to fungal death. Studies report that pre-treatment with hLF1-11 renders fluconazole-resistant strains sensitive to fluconazole.
