Overview

HLX203 is a recombinant human vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor-IgG Fc fusion protein developed by Shanghai Henlius Biotech as a biosimilar candidate to aflibercept (Eylea). It acts as a soluble decoy receptor that binds to VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF), thereby inhibiting the activation of VEGF receptors and subsequent angiogenesis and vascular permeability. The drug is primarily being developed for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases, including neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). HLX203 is designed to match the safety and efficacy profile of the reference product, Eylea, and is currently undergoing evaluation in late-stage clinical trials.
