HLX79 + rituximab

HLX79 + rituximab is a novel combination therapy under clinical evaluation for the treatment of active glomerulonephritis, including lupus nephritis and membranous nephropathy. HLX79 is a first-in-class human sialidase fusion protein therapeutic developed to enzymatically remove terminal sialic acid residues (sialoglycans) from the surface of pathogenic immune cells. By degrading these sialoglycans, HLX79 enhances immune clearance of autoreactive memory B cells and M2-like macrophages, both implicated in the progression of autoimmune kidney diseases. Rituximab (in this combination as HANLIKANG, a rituximab biosimilar developed by Henlius) is an anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody that further depletes B lymphocytes. The combination is designed to overcome inadequate depletion of pathogenic immune cells seen with anti-CD20 therapy alone, aiming for improved therapeutic efficacy in glomerulonephritis by synergistically targeting immune cell subpopulations and restoring immune balance[1][3][5][7].
