**HMB002** is an investigational, intraperitoneally infused, alginate-microbead cell therapy developed by King's College Hospital for paediatric acute liver failure. The product co-encapsulates donor-derived hepatocytes with mesenchymal stromal cells in modified peptide-alginate microbeads. It is intended to provide temporary hepatic synthetic and detoxification support as a bridge to liver transplantation or native-liver regeneration; alginate encapsulation is designed to shield the transplanted cells from host immune recognition and thereby avoid systemic immunosuppression.
