HMPBS02-Pv

HMPBS02-Pv is a Plasmodium vivax challenge agent developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It consists of red blood cells infected with the P. vivax parasite, intended for use in Controlled Human Malaria Infection (CHMI) studies. The primary purpose of HMPBS02-Pv in its initial clinical trial is to induce blood-stage malaria in healthy, malaria-naive adults to establish a standardized parasite cell bank. This cell bank will facilitate future research, including the testing of new antimalarial drugs and vaccines, by providing a consistent source of P. vivax parasites, which currently cannot be cultured long-term in vitro.
