HMW1 + HMW2 is an experimental **protein subunit vaccine antigen combination** comprising the nontypeable *Haemophilus influenzae* high-molecular-weight adhesins HMW1 and HMW2. These surface-exposed bacterial adhesins are major colonization factors and vaccine-candidate antigens intended to induce antibodies that block adherence of nontypeable *H. influenzae* to respiratory epithelium, promote bacterial agglutination and opsonophagocytic killing, and thereby reduce nasopharyngeal colonization and subsequent respiratory disease. The combination has been investigated in preclinical studies, including recombinant protein immunization and adenoviral expression approaches, as a candidate vaccine strategy for prevention of infections caused by nontypeable *H. influenzae*, which is implicated in otitis media and exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
