Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hochuekkito (TJ-41) is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine composed of ten medicinal herbs: Astragalus root, Atractylodes lancea rhizome, Ginseng root, Japanese angelica root, Citrus unshiu peel, Jujube fruit, Bupleurum root, Glycyrrhiza root, Cimicifuga rhizome, and Ginger rhizome. It is traditionally indicated for individuals with weak constitution, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Modern pharmacological studies indicate that Hochuekkito possesses anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, specifically through the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). It has been investigated for its potential to mitigate systemic inflammation and weight loss in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to prevent symptom progression in patients with mild COVID-19.
