Holcus lanatus pollen extract

Holcus lanatus pollen extract is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Holcus lanatus plant, which is also known as Yorkshire Fog or velvet grass. Developed and marketed by ALK-Abelló, Inc., it is classified as a non-standardized, biological product. This extract is utilized for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. For diagnosis, it is administered via percutaneous or intradermal skin tests to identify sensitivity to velvetgrass pollen. Therapeutically, it is used in allergen immunotherapy (hyposensitization) to treat allergic rhinitis and rhino-conjunctivitis. This treatment involves administering gradually increasing doses of the allergen to desensitize the immune system, thereby building tolerance and reducing allergic symptoms. The extract is formulated as an injection solution and has been on the market since 1965.
