Hollow gold and silver alloy cuprous oxide shell nano-shell hydrogel is an investigational ophthalmic Au-Ag-Cu2O composite nanogel for severe drug-resistant microbial keratitis. The hydrogel is applied to the corneal ulcer surface and used with 808 nm near-infrared photothermal therapy; irradiation is intended to generate heat and promote release of antimicrobial silver ions, copper ions, and reactive oxygen species. It is being evaluated in an early-phase clinical study sponsored by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine.
