Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This investigational dental product is a low-concentration, home-use tooth whitening gel that combines a peroxide-based bleaching agent with sodium fluoride (NaF) as a desensitizing agent. Developed by researchers at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, the formulation is designed for the cosmetic treatment of tooth staining while minimizing the common side effect of dentin hypersensitivity. The peroxide component functions by oxidizing organic pigments within the tooth structure, while the sodium fluoride acts to occlude dentinal tubules, thereby reducing the movement of fluid that triggers sensitivity. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials (e.g., ChiCTR2400092807) using a split-mouth design to compare its efficacy and sensitivity profile against formulations containing alternative desensitizers like sodium monofluorophosphate.
