Overview

Homoharringtonine (HHT) is a natural cytotoxic alkaloid derived from the *Cephalotaxus harringtonia* plant. It is primarily known for its anti-cancer properties, particularly in the treatment of hematological malignancies such as Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). Its main mechanism of action involves inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and blocking nascent peptide chain elongation. Additionally, HHT induces apoptosis, arrests the cell cycle, and modulates various signaling pathways, including MAPK/ERK1/2 and PI3K/AKT, contributing to its broad anti-tumor effects. It has also demonstrated immunomodulatory, antiviral, and anti-fibrotic activities.
