This regimen consists of a homologous prime-boost schedule using two doses of the mRNA-1273 (Moderna) vaccine. mRNA-1273 is a lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated mRNA vaccine that encodes the prefusion-stabilized spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In the context of this study, the homologous mRNA-1273 schedule served as the control arm to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a heterologous booster regimen where a second dose of the protein subunit vaccine MVC-COV1901 was administered to adults who had previously received a single dose of mRNA-1273.
