Overview

**Honey bee hymenoptera venom** is a sterile lyophilized biologic allergenic extract derived from *Apis mellifera* venom and used for both diagnosis of honey bee venom hypersensitivity and venom immunotherapy to reduce the risk of systemic allergic reactions after future bee stings. It is supplied as a freeze-dried powder for reconstitution, administered primarily by subcutaneous injection for immunotherapy and by percutaneous or intradermal skin testing for diagnosis. Its therapeutic effect is mediated not by blockade of a single molecular receptor, but by controlled exposure to whole bee venom allergens that modulates the patient's venom-specific immune response, reducing pathologic IgE-mediated reactivity and promoting clinical desensitization. The product has been marketed in the United States, including under the Venomil brand, and is manufactured by Jubilant HollisterStier.
