Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Honeycit is an acetic-free, citrate-based dialysis fluid developed by Gambro Lundia AB (now part of Baxter) for use in hemodialysis. It is specifically designed for patients with chronic kidney disease (chronic renal failure) to replace conventional acetate-containing dialysis fluids. By using citrate as the active buffering and acidifying agent, Honeycit aims to enhance the biocompatibility of the dialysis process and minimize adverse effects associated with acetate, such as systemic inflammation and hemodynamic instability. The fluid was evaluated in a Phase IV randomized crossover trial in Sweden to compare its safety and biocompatibility profile against standard solutions like Selectbag One.
