Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Honeysuckle decoction is a traditional herbal preparation made by boiling the flowers, stems, or leaves of the honeysuckle plant (commonly Lonicera japonica) in water. It is a major remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is known as "jin yin hua" and used to clear "heat" and "toxicity" from the body. The decoction exhibits anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antipyretic (fever-reducing), and detoxifying properties. It is primarily indicated for conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections (colds, flu), sore throat, fever, skin infections with pus or swelling (boils/carbuncles), gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea and dysentery associated with heat/toxicity presentations in TCM[1][3][4][5]. Mechanistically, its effects are attributed to bioactive compounds that modulate inflammation and immune responses; however, specific molecular targets are not well defined in modern pharmacology.
