Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Honeysuckle rattan decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal preparation primarily derived from the stems and vines of *Lonicera japonica* Thunb. (known as Rendongteng). Developed and extensively studied by researchers at the Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, this decoction is specifically indicated for the treatment of carotid atherosclerosis and the stabilization of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques. The therapeutic mechanism involves potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. It is thought to modulate the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and reducing systemic inflammatory markers like high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). By suppressing vascular wall inflammation, the decoction helps to reduce the intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery and improve plaque stability.
