Honghua Xiaoyao Pill

Honghua Xiaoyao Pill (also known as Hong-Hua-Xiao-Yao Tablet or HHXYT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula composed of nine herbal ingredients. It is primarily used for the treatment of mammary gland hyperplasia (MGH), perimenopausal syndrome, ovarian syndrome, menstrual disorders, and related conditions. The formula includes Carthamus tinctorius L. (safflower/Honghua), Angelica sinensis (Danggui), Paeonia lactiflora Pall. (Baishao), Gleditsia sinensis Lam. (Zaojiaoci), Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz. (Baizhu), Wolfiporia cocos (Fuling), Mentha canadensis L. (Bohe/mint), Bupleurum marginatum Wall. ex DC. (Zhuye Chaihu), and Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. ex DC. (Gancao/licorice)[4][5]. Pharmacological studies indicate that its active components possess anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, immune-regulatory effects and can modulate hormone levels[1][4]. Key chemical constituents include paeoniflorin and glycyrrhizin[1], among others; 55 compounds have been identified in the preparation[6]. Mechanistically, it may exert therapeutic effects by regulating hormone disorders—such as reducing estrogen-stimulated mammary gland hyperplasia by inhibiting androgen production—and modulating apoptosis-related signaling pathways in target tissues[4][1].
