Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Honghua yellow pigment capsule is a botanical drug product derived from the dried flowers of the safflower plant (*Carthamus tinctorius* L.), developed by the Shandong Province Natural Medicine Engineering Technology Research Center. Its primary active constituent is Hydroxysafflor Yellow A (HSYA), a water-soluble chalcone glycoside. The drug is investigated for the treatment of ischemic stroke (cerebral infarction) during the convalescent phase, specifically targeting patients with the Traditional Chinese Medicine pattern of blood stasis obstructing collaterals. Pharmacologically, it exhibits anti-platelet, anti-thrombotic, and neuroprotective properties. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation, reducing ischemia-reperfusion injury, and providing antioxidant effects, which collectively help to improve cerebral microcirculation and support neuronal recovery following an ischemic event.
