Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hoodia parviflora is a succulent plant native to Southern Africa that is utilized as a botanical extract for metabolic health. Research in animal models of metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has demonstrated that oral administration of H. parviflora can improve insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, and hepatic histology while reducing liver enzymes and intrahepatic triglycerides. These therapeutic effects are associated with a reduction in proinflammatory markers, including IL-6 secretion and STAT3 signaling, and occur independently of changes in food consumption or body weight. Commercially, it is developed as a dietary supplement and has been granted GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status in the United States.
