Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hops extract phytoestrogens, primarily containing the highly potent prenylflavonoid 8-prenylnaringenin (8-PN), are natural plant-derived compounds obtained from the female cones of the hops plant (Humulus lupulus). These phytoestrogens act as selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) with a high affinity for estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and estrogen receptor beta (ERβ). They are widely investigated and used as dietary supplements to alleviate menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness, and to support bone health by preventing bone resorption and promoting osteoblast differentiation in conditions like osteopenia and osteoporosis.
