Hordeum vulgare pollen is a biological extract derived from the pollen of the common barley plant (*Hordeum vulgare*). It is primarily utilized as an allergen for diagnostic purposes, specifically in skin prick testing or in vitro assays to identify sensitivities to grass and cereal pollens. In some clinical contexts, particularly in Europe, it is incorporated into allergen immunotherapy (AIT) formulations, often as part of a mixture with other cereal pollens (e.g., *Triticum sativum*, *Avena sativa*, *Zea mays*), to desensitize patients suffering from allergic rhinitis or asthma triggered by grass pollen. The extract contains various proteins that act as antigens, triggering a localized allergic response in sensitized individuals by cross-linking IgE on mast cells.
