Overview

Horizontal platelet-rich fibrin (H-PRF) is an autologous blood-derived biologic used primarily in regenerative dentistry and oral surgery to enhance soft and hard tissue healing. It is produced by centrifuging a patient's whole blood in a horizontal centrifuge, which allows for a more distinct separation of blood components compared to traditional fixed-angle centrifugation. This process results in a fibrin matrix with a higher concentration of platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors (such as PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF) distributed throughout the clot. H-PRF acts as a scaffold for cell migration and a reservoir for the sustained release of bioactive molecules, promoting angiogenesis and tissue regeneration at surgical sites like palatal donor sites or third molar extraction sockets.
