Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Houpo Paiqi Heji is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) oral liquid formulation primarily used to promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function following surgery. The name "Houpo" refers to *Magnolia officinalis*, a key botanical ingredient known for its prokinetic properties. The formulation is designed to "expel gas" (Paiqi) and alleviate abdominal distension by stimulating intestinal peristalsis and facilitating the first postoperative flatus and defecation. It is frequently integrated into Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols to reduce the duration of postoperative ileus and improve patient outcomes after day surgery. The mixture typically contains extracts of *Magnolia officinalis*, *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus*, *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei*, and *Natrii Sulfas*, which collectively act on the enteric nervous system and gastrointestinal hormone receptors to enhance motility.
