Overview

House dust mite allergen extracts (specifically the STG320 formulation) are a sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) treatment developed by Stallergenes Greer. The product contains standardized extracts from the two most common house dust mite species, *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*. It is designed to treat house dust mite-associated allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma by inducing immunological tolerance. The mechanism involves the sublingual administration of allergens, which are taken up by oral mucosal dendritic cells and presented to T-cells, leading to a shift from a Th2-mediated allergic response to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) response. This process results in the production of blocking antibodies (IgG4) and a reduction in allergen-specific IgE, ultimately decreasing the inflammatory response upon subsequent exposure to dust mites.
