The house dust mite PLGA nanoparticle vaccine is an experimental allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) candidate developed by the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It consists of house dust mite (HDM) allergens encapsulated within poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles. The vaccine is specifically designed to target Langerhans cells in the skin via the Langerin (CD207) receptor. By delivering HDM allergens directly to these antigen-presenting cells, the vaccine aims to induce immune tolerance and modulate the allergic response, specifically for the prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis. This approach leverages the biodegradable and biocompatible properties of PLGA to provide a controlled release of the allergen and enhance the safety and efficacy of traditional immunotherapy.
