Overview
House dust mite sublingual allergen immunotherapy is a once-daily sublingual tablet developed by ALK-Abelló and co-developed by Merck & Co. (as MK-8237) for North America. It is marketed under the brand names Acarizax in Europe and Canada, Odactra in the US, and Miticure in Japan. The active ingredient is a standardized allergen extract from two house dust mite species, *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*, formulated at a dose of 12 SQ-HDM. It is indicated for the treatment of house dust mite-induced allergic rhinitis (with or without conjunctivitis) and house dust mite-induced allergic asthma that is not well controlled by inhaled corticosteroids. The therapy works by exposing the patient's immune system to standardized allergen extracts, thereby inducing immunological tolerance and modifying the course of the allergic disease.
