Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Houttuynia eye drops is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) ophthalmic preparation derived from the extract of *Houttuynia cordata* (Herba Houttuyniae). The primary active constituent is methylnonanone (methyl nonyl ketone), typically present at concentrations of 1.0-5.0 μg/ml. The drug exhibits a multi-faceted mechanism of action including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiallergic, and antioxidative properties. It is primarily utilized for the treatment of vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)-related dry eye disease. Clinical administration often involves ultrasonic atomization, which has been shown to significantly improve eye symptom scores, meibum quality, and tear break-up time (TBUT) in patients with mild to moderate dry eye.
