Overview

HOXB7 siRNA is a research-stage RNA interference (RNAi)-based therapeutic agent designed to silence the HOXB7 gene, which encodes a homeodomain-containing transcription factor implicated in tamoxifen-resistant and hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. Its active ingredient is a small double-stranded RNA (siRNA) molecule complementary to the HOXB7 mRNA, which upon delivery into cancer cells triggers post-transcriptional gene silencing via the RNAi pathway. The compound has been studied primarily in academic research contexts, with no identified single commercial developer or brand name. It has been delivered using hybrid nanoparticles (e.g., calcium phosphate-based nanocarriers) to protect the siRNA from degradation and facilitate cellular uptake. Preclinical studies have shown that HOXB7 siRNA reduces HOXB7 gene expression, suppresses breast cancer cell proliferation and invasion, and sensitizes cancer cells to tamoxifen, suggesting potential utility in treating Luminal A (hormone receptor-positive) breast cancer, particularly in combination with hormone therapy.
