HP-5000 is a topical patch containing Diclofenac Sodium, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Developed by Noven Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical, it is designed to alleviate pain and inflammation by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis. The drug has undergone studies to evaluate its potential for skin irritation and sensitization, and has been investigated for the treatment of osteoarthritis pain of the knee.
