Overview

HPB2 is a synthetic small molecule ligand for the orphan nuclear receptor estrogen-related receptor gamma (ERRγ). It has been shown to ameliorate depression-like behavior and enhance adult neurogenesis in young female LRRK2-G2019S mice, a model for Parkinson's disease. Its mechanism involves increasing the number of spines and dendrites in the hippocampal dentate gyrus and upregulating brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) signaling, which are crucial for neurogenesis.
